Low-Carb Ice Cream: Battle of the Brands

Low Carb Ice Cream: Battle of the Brands | PrimalinPink.com

If you’re following my instagram, you might’ve noticed I’ve become somewhat obsessed with Halo Top ice cream. I’ve tried several of their flavors now and have become a huge fan. Then I heard about Arctic Zero, another brand of low-carb ice cream. Naturally, I wanted to see how the two compared, so I decided to do a bit of a battle of the brands and review them both for you!

Of course, this is all subjective. You might try both of these brands and completely disagree with my opinions here. However, I did try to break things down to help me be as fair and objective as possible. I looked at four main factors: flavor, texture, aftertaste, and nutrition.

Perfect Primal Snacks: Homemade Beef Jerky

Perfect Primal Snacks: Homemade Beef Jerky | PrimalinPink.com

Ever since I mentioned making homemade beef jerky in my Primal & Keto-Friendly Snacks post a few weeks ago I’ve been on a huge jerky kick. It’s no-carb (as long as you’re not eating store-bought, which tends to include sugar), stores easily, it’s super satisfying and filling, easy to portion, and portable. What’s not to love? But every time I’m making a batch and mention it to friends, I get all kinds of questions about it. People have asked how to do it, if it’s safe to do at home, what equipment you need… you name it.

So let’s talk jerky.

Screw the Scale: Why it’s Not About Your Weight

Screw the Scale: Why it's Not About Your Weight | PrimalinPink.com

Whether you’re on your way towards new fitness goals or maintaining an already healthy lifestyle, it’s so easy to step on the scale and judge your progress (or lack thereof) by the number you see there.

Please, don’t.

Your health and fitness and self worth are so much more complex than one simple number could possibly represent – your weight least of all. Sure, a bathroom scale is a convenient way to track your fitness efforts, but there are so many things that can affect the number you see there, many of which have nothing to do with your health habits. Your weight is just one little piece of a much larger whole, which is way too complex and too important to reduce down to being about one thing. In fact, out of all the ways you might evaluate your fitness level, I’d argue weight is the least conclusive.

As a side note, I apologize for the page loading issues you may have noticed with my blog over the past week. Hidden Carbs Where You Least Expect Them: Part 1

I mentioned in my last post that I’ve been tracking my diet using myfitnesspal. Although it certainly takes some extra time throughout the day – especially at first – it’s been thoroughly worth it for me because of how many hidden sources of carbs it’s helped me discover.

It’s absolutely insane how many carbs you can find in foods you thought were completely safe.

After a few of these nasty surprises, I’ve become a lot more meticulous about checking the nutrition label on EVERYTHING. It’s amazing how many products have added sugar or starches that you’d never guess based on taste alone. I realize that, depending on your current fitness goals and whether or not you’re trying to engage in ketosis, your daily budget of carbs may vary vastly from mine. Still, it’s far better to realize ahead of time exactly where those carbs are coming from so that you can make smarter choices about what you put in your body. What follows is part 1 of a series of posts I’m planning all about those hidden carbs and how to avoid them. First up? SEASONING MIXES.Read More

How to Undo the Damage of Sitting at a Desk with Yin Yoga

I have a confession to make. I am a desk dweller. I spend the vast majority of my time at my desk, and I can’t even claim that I’m forced to because of work. My PC is where my hobbies are – gaming, blogging, and many of my friends.

Unfortunately, all that sitting is damaging your body, whether you realize it or not.

The good news for fellow desk dwellers is that you absolutely can do something about it. Of course, the more physical activity you can add to your life, the better off you’ll be overall. But, whether you’re bound to your desk by work or by choice, harnessing the gentle power of yin yoga can improve your flexibility and help you reduce the strain on your spine, joints, and neck.

Bulletproofing Your Coffee

Bulletproofing Your Coffee Title 2

Bulletproof Coffee isn’t exactly new. You might have heard to it referred to as buttered coffee or keto coffee. Whatever you want to call it, the basics are the same: adding substantial amounts of healthy, easy-to-burn fats to your coffee to kick-start your metabolism in the morning, maintain ketosis, and keep you feeling full for hours.
